With warm temperatures throughout the year and a diverse range of destinations and experiences to choose from, Thailand is the ideal year-round destination. One of the most frequently asked questions we get is, “when is the best time to visit Thailand?” The short answer is that any month can be a good month to visit. To help you plan your trip to Thailand, we’ve put together a breakdown of what you can expect from each month.

Amazing festivals
There is hardly a month goes by without some colourful festival taking place in Thailand. Be prepared to get a good-natured soaking as you join in the fun for the Songkran New Year Water Festival in April. Take time to reflect during the beautiful Loy Krathong Festival in November and look out for a whole host of local festivals that take place throughout the year.
Thailand’s three seasons
Temperatures in Thailand remain warm all year round with three seasons; cool season (known in Thai as ruedu yen) from November-February, hot season (ruedu rawn) from March-May, and the green season/rainy season (ruedu fon) from May/June-October. There are regional variations to these general patterns and even when the rain does fall in Thailand it can often be in short-lived tropical downpours.
Best beach weather
With different weather patterns affecting the Gulf Coast and Andaman Coast, you can still find a sunny Thai beach to relax on whatever time of year you travel. As a general rule, these are the areas where you should see the best weather:
April-October: Gulf Coast islands (Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, Ko Tao)
November-March: Andaman Coast (including Krabi, Phuket), East Coast (including Ko Chang, Pattaya)

January

The weather in Thailand is generally settled throughout January. With pleasant temperatures and lower humidity it’s a good time of the year to explore city destinations like Bangkok and Chiang Mai or head out into the scenic countryside of north Thailand.
January is also a good month to visit many of Thailand’s beach resorts or islands. The only potential exception is the Gulf Coast, which can sometimes see isolated showers in the first half of the month. The opposite Andaman Coast usually has consistently good weather throughout January making it a great time to go island hopping and visit some of the best beaches Thailand has to offer.

February is a good month to leave behind the colder climes of the UK and Ireland and top up on ‘Vitamin Sea’ with a beach holiday in Thailand. Wherever you decide to go you can look forward to plenty of blue skies and warm temperatures. Beyond the beach you can expect to see excellent weather wherever you visit. The blue skies and sunshine of February is also accompanied by low humidity levels and comfortable temperatures.

March

The arrival of March sees rising temperatures as the cool season gradually makes way to the hot season. With the peak tourist season months now over, a drop in prices for accommodation and internal flights in March can make a spring holiday in Thailand even more tempting. Similar weather patterns are in place on Thailand’s different coastlines and with calm conditions at sea, March is an excellent month to visit any of the many islands or mainland beach resorts.

May

May signifies the start of the tourist low season months as Thailand transitions from the hot season into the green season. The rainfall during May is welcome, marking the end of the long hot season and bringing with it fresher conditions. The arrival of the rains has traditionally been an important time of the year in Thailand, especially in agricultural areas. And this is celebrated by locals with amazing Rocket Festivals which take place in areas of the north and north-east.
While much of the country is welcoming the start of the green season, the Gulf Coast islands of Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao enjoy extended spells of warm and sunny weather from April to October.
