A hip new creative space and market-inspired shop, OMG Outstanding Market Goods, is bringing a buzz to the Phuket Town local neighbourhood with its innovative concept. Situated in a recently renovated 60s-era shophouse building on the fringe of Phuket Old Town, OMG is a private residence that opens its ground floor for business on weekends.
A cool creative space with a laid-back vibe, the origin of OMG is a unique gift and souvenir shop selling locally sourced products and incredible finds from around the world – “stuff with a sense of place.” With a dedicated commitment to showcasing food and fashion, two of Thailand’s revered soft power resources, many of the goods for sale in the shop include Northern Thai farmers’ shirts dyed with real indigo, beautiful textile items made by talented locals from Isaan, Sabai Dee tropical shirts which are a spin on the Southeast Asian Kui Heng shirt, and Graphic Thai t-shirts which highlight culinary obsession and some of Thailand’s most famous dishes – kaprao, khao soi and som tam.
The market shop is constantly updated, and stocked with items that are unique to Thailand as well as interesting products from around the world including vintage French pin-up playing cards, glassware from Japan, and ‘military’ trainers/sneakers designed in the 1980s for the Italian army. OMG is the place to go for quirky, yet thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gifts and souvenirs.
OMG Outstanding Market Goods is the brainchild of two good friends behind the Fantastic Food Search website as well as the Phuket home of a professional photographer and his delightful Thai wife. The owners are lovely, welcoming people who care about the community and are striving to build a warm, engaging place for expats, locals and tourists to gather, chat and chill. And they’re succeeding.
A refreshing addition to the ever-evolving Phuket Town scene, OMG is truly a special gem. There is no place on the island like it, and lovers of art and photography, food, fashion and music will be blown away by the space’s vintage interiors, chic touches and cool atmosphere. Plus, if you’re lucky, the owners might just give you the shophouse tour and explain the renovations that got them to this point.

OMG Outstanding Market Goods is located at the Downtown Market in Phuket Town, opposite the Downtown Inn on Soi Sapphakit. Look for the mural of popular Thai artist Alex Face depicting his beloved character Mardi wearing a pink Baba dress and pushing a market trolley. The shop is open Fridays to Sundays from 12 noon until 10:00 pm.
