Classic Thailand honeymoon
If you’re visiting Thailand for the first time, this itinerary is a classic introduction to Thailand that takes in the North, South, and Central regions of the country. You and your partner will be able to experience cities, culture, nature and the beach. This itinerary is well-suited for a honeymoon because it gives you time to relax and enjoy the diversity of this amazing country.
- Chiang Mai: 5/6 days
- Beach or island in Southern Thailand (e.g. Khao Lak, Krabi, Phuket, Ko Samui): 7/8 days
- Bangkok: 2/3 days
Most travellers from the UK and Ireland arrive in Thailand via Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, typically starting their holiday in the bustling capital. However, another excellent option for a honeymoon is to transfer directly to Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. With frequent flights from Suvarnabhumi to Chiang Mai, the journey takes just over an hour.

Starting your trip in Chiang Mai offers a gentler introduction to Thailand, allowing you to ease into the country’s culture and pace before experiencing the energetic vibe of Bangkok later. Spend five or six days soaking up Chiang Mai’s charm and cultural treasures, then fly directly to a southern beach destination for a week of relaxation. Round off your honeymoon with a romantic finale in Bangkok.

Internal flights in Thailand are great value, and on this itinerary, you can fly directly from Chiang Mai to Krabi, Phuket or Ko Samui and then end your trip in Bangkok.

An expanded codeshare partnership between British Airways and Bangkok Airways allows seamless travel to various locations in Thailand including Chiang Mai, Ko Samui, and Phuket. The agreement means British Airways customers travelling from or transiting through London can connect to their final destination in Thailand on a single ticket.

Fly-and-flop honeymoon
Thailand is well-suited to a fly-and-flop holiday where the focus is on unwinding in just one or two destinations. With a myriad of dazzling Thai beaches and enchanting islands to choose from, honeymooners are in for a treat. International airports connect most of Thailand’s main beach resort areas, so it’s easier than ever to enjoy a fly-and-flop holiday in Thailand.
Bangkok
Whichever option you choose, consider adding a couple of nights in Bangkok at the end of the trip before you fly back home. The Thai capital hosts amazing rooftop bars and restaurants, cool music venues, and fabulous hotels. Treating yourself to a bit of luxury here for a few nights is a lovely way to round off your honeymoon.

Ko Samui
Ko Samui is synonymous with romance. Its blend of luxurious beachfront villas, serene palm-lined beaches, and luxury wellness centres creates a dreamy setting for honeymooners. One option would be to spend two weeks staying on Ko Samui with the occasional day trip out to locations like Ang Thong National Marine Park. Alternatively, you could opt for a twin-centre break combining Samui with the neighbouring island of Ko Pha Ngan.

Although Ko Pha Ngan is renowned for its boisterous Full Moon Party, that event is tucked away in one corner of the island so don’t be put off. There are plenty of locations where you can relax in comfort and enjoy the relaxed beach vibes.
Krabi
Krabi is on the mainland and there are several different beaches to choose from. Wherever you choose to stay in Krabi, there are plenty of islands within easy reach which make for an enjoyable day trip.

The most developed resort area with the biggest choice of accommodation is Ao Nang. From here, it’s a short boat trip to Railay Beach. Part of a peninsula, Railay can only be reached by boat so has an island feel to it with luxury accommodation options such as Rayavadee offering an unforgettable honeymoon experience.

Tubkaak Beach is further north along the Krabi coastline from Ao Nang and offers a more relaxed experience with some excellent hotels such as The Tubkaak Resort and Banyan Tree Krabi ideal for honeymooners.
For a twin-centre holiday, you could combine Krabi with either Ko Lanta or Phi Phi. Laidback Ko Lanta offers a good selection of beaches and is a great choice for a romantic getaway. Phi Phi attracts more of a party crowd, but this can easily be avoided if you opt for a quieter corner of the island and stay at a resort like Zeavola or SAii Phi Phi Island Village.

If you’d really like to get away from it all, but still experience a taste of local life, consider Ko Yao Noi or Ko Yao Yai. Both of these islands are easy to reach from either Krabi or Phuket and their relaxed, unhurried vibe makes them ideal for honeymooners.

Phuket
Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and a perennial favourite for honeymooners. With inviting beaches, luxury resorts, and plenty to see and do away from the beach, Phuket offers a good mix of relaxation and adventure. As with Ko Samui, you can easily spend a couple of weeks in Phuket on a fly-and-flop holiday.

For a twin-centre break, Phuket can be paired with either Ko Yao Noi or Yai. Another great option for a honeymoon is Khao Lak. Located on the mainland to the north of Phuket, Khao Lak is ideal for couples.
Island-hopping honeymoon
If you’d like to experience more of Thailand’s incredible beaches and islands on your honeymoon, consider an island-hopping itinerary.
East Coast
You can fly from Bangkok to Trat and from there connect by boat transfer to Ko Chang and the surrounding islands. Ko Chang is the largest and most developed of these islands with the biggest choice of accommodation. Ko Kood is smaller and sees fewer visitors but has some exquisite resorts that are ideal for honeymooners. Ko Mak is another charming island which is great for couples while Ko Wai is perfect if you want to get away from it all and don’t need luxury. Find out more here:

Andaman Coast
Thailand’s Andaman Coast is home to dozens of delightful islands that offer up a multitude of choices for beach lovers.
We mentioned Phuket for a fly-and-flop holiday, but Thailand’s largest island can also be used as a springboard for a multi-island trip to include Ko Racha, Phi Phi, Ko Yao Noi and Ko Yao Yai.
In the far south, diminutive Ko Lipe is a great choice for a honeymoon. Ko Lipe can be combined with Ko Tarutao and Ko Bulon Leh.
Gulf Coast
Over on Thailand’s Gulf Coast, Ko Samui can be combined with Ko Pha Ngan for a relaxing honeymoon. If you’d like to enjoy more underwater activities, add Ko Tao to the itinerary with this island a haven for divers.
