Monopoly has received a northern Thai twist with a special Chiang Mai edition now on sale following the official launch of the game in Chiang Mai on 11 October 2023. The classic board game sees the likes of Doi Suthep and Thapae Gate replacing Regent Street and Trafalgar Square. The Monopoly game also includes customised Chance and Community Chest cards with a Chiang Mai focus. Chiang Mai is the second location in Thailand to receive a Monopoly makeover following the launch of the Phuket edition in March 2022.
In addition to the new Monopoly game, a Chiang Mai edition of the popular card game Top Trumps has also been released.
The MONOPOLY: Chiang Mai Edition and Top Trumps Chiang Mai has been created by Winning Moves UK (licensed by the Monopoly owners Hasbro) and in partnership with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The TAT Governor, Miss Thapanee Kiatphaibool, said, “The games act as an enticing reason to visit Thailand and are a fun souvenir for those who spend their holidays here. We want to drive travellers to immerse themselves in the destination and extend their stay by having more meaningful experiences and engaging with the local communities and their captivating charm.”
