In this latest episode of our Master Chef Turns Master Tour Guide series, Chef Nawamin (aka Dr Boss) travels to the Thai capital to show you another side to Bangkok.
I could actually call myself a ‘Bangkokian’ as I’ve spent half of my life in this wonderful metropolis. After I went to the UK to study for a PhD and to do a bit of cooking, I appreciated the art scene in London and wished Bangkok could have something similar. Well, maybe I didn’t know where to look before, but on this trip I discovered another side to Bangkok.
Welcome to The Siam
I chose to stay at The Siam Hotel because I’d heard lots of good things about this wonderful hotel. From the moment I arrived, it more than reached up to my expectations. My villa was beautifully decorated with antique items and the first thing that popped into my head was, “I want to live in a place like this forever”. The Siam is located in an area of Bangkok that I really like; not too busy and full of good restaurants near the Chao Phraya River.
River City Bangkok
During my stay, I took a private river boat from The Siam Hotel to River City. Travelling on the Chao Phraya River is my go-to route when I want to really explore and appreciate Bangkok. I have done this route many times, but it still wows me again and again. Exploring Bangkok with no traffic! Yes please! I was heading to meet David Robinson who is the founder of Creative District at River City and he was going to show me another side to Bangkok. Well, I was up for anything and David did actually surprise me by showing me things that I had been longing to have in Bangkok. As it turned out, the art scene, galleries, quirky cafés and well conserved buildings are all here in the Bangrak district of Bangkok and I really can recommend anyone visiting the city to check out this area.
Heaven for foodies in Bangkok’s Chinatown area
The food scene in Bangkok is just incredible from yummy street food at Yaowarat (Chinatown) to Michelin-starred restaurants that take Thai food to another level. I wish I had a few weeks to do a proper food tour here. Check out my Instagram for more foodie posts.
There is so much to see and do in Bangkok. I am still learning about the Thai capital and on this latest visit it was amazing to experience Bangkok from another angle.
