Welcome to the world of posh camping, aka glamping. As you might expect from the Land of Smiles, Thailand takes glamping to another level. From tented camps in the mountains to luxurious locations on the beach, we’ve compiled a selection of some of the best glamping sites in Thailand.

Chiang Mai

Lan Na Wild

Located in the countryside of Mae On district to the east of Chiang Mai city, Lan Na Wild was designed by renowned Thai architect, Amornthep Kachanonda. To make the most of the mountain views and to help guests feel closer to nature, Amornthep uses bamboo and cloth extensively in the design. Different tent types are available with several featuring a private jacuzzi or onsen.

With a lovely location in rural Chiang Mai overlooking the Ping River, The Bush Camp features 10 luxury tents. This is a sister site of the award-winning Elephant Hills (see Khao Sok below) and, as with Elephant Hills, the focus here is not just on a luxury glamping experience, but also on responsible tourism. This includes the nearby elephant park with its ethos of supporting chain-free, hands-off elephant experiences.

Anantara Golden Triangle Jungle Bubbles

With a secluded location in Thailand’s most northernmost province, Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is the ideal tropical escape. And it is in this serene setting in Chiang Rai near the border with Laos and Myanmar that visitors can experience something truly special.

Ideal for anyone seeking a retreat in the Thai countryside, Visama Mae Chan features 10 luxury safari-style tents in a quiet, rural location 45 minutes drive north of Chiang Rai city. Visama works closely with the Mae Chan community which means that local people benefit not just financially, but also through vocational training and the promotion of conservation in the area.

Kanchanaburi

Hintok River Camp

Kanchanaburi is a province steeped in history. During the Second World War, the Japanese army used prisoners of war and forced labour to construct the Thailand-Burma railway. The horrors endured on this stretch of track led to it becoming known as the Death Railway. Located near Hellfire Pass, Hintok River Camp is a good choice for anyone interested in the history of this area.

9 Hornbills Tented Camp

Situated on the laidback island of Ko Yao Noi, the 10 tented villas at 9 Hornbills offer panoramic views of Phang Nga Bay. The name of this hillside retreat comes from the hornbills who live nearby. Judging by the facilities and location of 9 Hornbills, the birds seem to be a good judge of the best places to stay.

The wood used for the locally made furniture comes from sustainable teak forests and the resort also uses its own water collecting system as part of its sustainability drive. Although 9 Hornbills is located on a hillside, guests can use the private beach of its sister resort, Koyao Island Resort.

Twinpalms Tented Camp

Last but by no means least on our alphabetical list of glamping sites in Thailand is the Twinpalms Tented Camp (previously called Lazy Coconut). The only one of our selection that is truly beachfront, you step out of your safari-style tent to be welcomed by the soft sand of Bang Tao Beach.

The glamping accommodation is adjacent to the Lazy Coconut Beach Club. Enjoy the pool, chilled music, tasty food and cold drinks on offer here while you laze on your private veranda or in one of the beach cabanas.
